Lars Rune Christensen

Associate Professor

Research interests

Digital Welfare, Information and Communication Technology for Develeopment (ICTD; ICT4D), Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW)

Lars Rune Christensen research is on the intersection between information technology and ethnography. His focus is on developing a systematic, conceptual foundation for understanding, designing and integrating computational artifacts in practice, especially in relation to digital welfare in Denmark and in the Global South.

At the ITU he is primary investigator of “Rohingya mHealth: Increasing Access to Healthcare for the Rohingya Community in the Refugee Camps in Bangladesh”, funded by Novo Nordisk Foundation. The partners in the project will extend, enhance and evaluate ongoing humanitarian efforts directed at creating an mHealth system and increase access to healthcare for the Rohingya. The partners are the IT University of Copenhagen (ITU) and Friendship (an NGO registered in Bangladesh).

In Denmark, his research is on digitalisation in the Danish public sector and he is head of a work package within EcoKnow (ecoknow.org) funded by the Danish Innovation Fund. The research project centres on developing solutions for the effective digitalisation of knowledge work processes that empower case workers and citizens to plan evidence-based optimal process flows for the individual case, while guaranteeing both efficiency and compliance with the law.

Lars holds a PhD in humancentric computing and has published extensively on the relationships between humans, their practices, and information technology.
