publicETHOS: Mining the Web with Hyphe

On December 1st in DesignLab from 13:00-16:00

A lecture and workshop with Mathieu Jacomy, Research Engineer, Science Po médialab, Paris.

Can we find our way in the web without Google? The web is not structured as a library, but it is not chaos either. Thanks to graph theory we have a better understanding of the web as a network. Science Po médialab developed Hyphe, a web crawler leveraging this knowledge to help researchers build corpora.
Mathieu Jacomy will present this tool with focus on two of its specificities: how the “prospect” interface helps the user to curate her/his corpus, and how the concept of “web entities” is used and implemented. The lecture will be followed by a practical workshop focusing on Hyphe usage: importing URLs, iterative extension and curation of the corpus, network exploration and data export.
